About The Waterworks
A Place to Gather, Belong & Be Well Fed
At Waterworks, we believe that sharing a meal is about far more than food, it’s about connection, care, and the simple but powerful act of treating one another well. As a locally rooted restaurant in the heart of Rockland, we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our community, our neighbors, and the many visitors who travel to Midcoast Maine each year.
Our doors are open to everyone, from every background, every walk of life, and every chapter of their story. When you step into Waterworks, our hope is that differences soften, conversations flow, and people feel genuinely welcomed. We take pride in creating a space where kindness leads, respect matters, and hospitality is offered with sincerity and enthusiasm. Serving others is a privilege we never take lightly, and we strive to meet every guest with warmth, energy, and care.
Rooted in Community, Present for Life’s Moments
Over the years, Waterworks has become part of the rhythm of life in Rockland. Guests join us for everyday meals and also for milestones, celebrations, reunions, quiet dinners, spontaneous gatherings, and long-awaited visits back to town. Many people carry memories of Waterworks through different seasons of their lives, and we are honored to be part of those moments.
We believe good food nourishes more than the body. It brings people together, creates shared experiences, and strengthens community ties. Every dish we serve is made with intention, using ingredients we can stand behind, prepared by people who care deeply about what they do. It is a joy to feed our community and to contribute, in our own way, to the wellbeing of this place we call home.
In the Center of a Thriving Coastal Town
Waterworks is located just off Main Street in downtown Rockland, a town that has grown into one of Maine’s most vibrant cultural and creative hubs. Rockland is home to an ever-evolving mix of art galleries, working waterfronts, museums, independent shops, cafés, and live music venues, all woven together by its strong maritime roots and welcoming spirit.
Visitors often spend the day exploring downtown on foot, moving easily between galleries, shops, coffee houses, and the harborfront before settling in for a meal. Waterworks fits naturally into that flow, an easy stop whether you’re out for a stroll, arriving after a day of exploration, or gathering with friends before heading out for the evening.
Surrounded by the Best of Midcoast Maine
Beyond downtown, our location places us within minutes of some of the most scenic and memorable places in Midcoast Maine. The iconic Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse offers a stunning walk along the water, while nearby Owls Head Light, Owls Head Harbor, and Rockland Harbor showcase the beauty of Maine’s working coast.
We’re also a short drive from Camden and Rockport, known for their harbors, hiking trails, and coastal views. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby scenic walks, waterfront paths, and hiking areas such as Beach Hill, while cultural travelers often visit local institutions like the Maine Maritime Academy programs and the Maine Boat & Harbor School, along with Rockland’s many museums and arts spaces.
Easy to Reach, Close to Everything
Waterworks is conveniently located for both local diners and travelers. We are approximately 10 minutes from Owls Head Regional Airport, making us an easy stop for visitors arriving by air. For those traveling longer distances, we are roughly 1.5 hours from Portland International Jetport and about 2 hours from Bangor International Airport.
Whether you’re visiting for a day, a weekend, or an extended stay. Nearly everything that makes Midcoast Maine special, from coastal towns to trails, harbors, and cultural landmarks, most of them are only a 10–15 minute drive from Rockland.
